MY DREAM

My Dream is a sponsorship programme through which SFCG assists students to obtain financial aid from institutions and companies to sponsor their tertiary education.

We also look for individuals and groups of people who are interested and willing to support the girls through their tertiary education., some of such institutions being GETFund, Ashesi University and Black Star Excellence.

GETFund

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) provides financial aid to needy students who are successful in their application bids. Below is a breakdown of students that have obtained GETFund scholarships.

First Cohort

Three out of eight young ladies from our first cohort obtained GETFund scholarships as they began their tertiary education in the 2020 – 2021 academic year.

Sherifa from Salaga in the Savannah Region of Ghana is pursuing her DREAM to become a medical doctor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi and is currently in her fourth year.

Felicity from Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono Region is pursuing a career in Land Economy at KNUST and is in her fourth and final year.

Samuella from Akrobi, Wenchi in the Bono Region is in her final year at the Presbyterian University at Agogo and pursuing her DREAM as a physician assistant.

Second Cohort

Once again, three out of eight young ladies from the second cohort obtained the GETFund scholarship to pursue their dreams at the university in the 2021 – 2022 academic year.

Gifty from Akaetsi in the Volta Region of Ghana is in her third year at KNUST pursuing a course in Political Science.

Olivia from Manso Abore in the Ashanti Region is in her third year at the Cape-Coast University pursuing a degree in Biochemistry.

Paschallia from Ga Mashie – Gbese in the Greater Accra Region is also in her third year pursuing a BA degree in Humanities.

Individual sponsors

Ellen from Susuanso in the Bono Region of Ghana was our first student to be sponsored by an individual. She was introduced to us in 2018 as a very studious and diligent student whose parents were struggling to settle her fees in school. An individual expressed the desire to take care of her and immediately started paying her fees from her final year at the high school. Ellen’s dream to become a nurse was fulfilled in August, 2023. She currently holds a BSc from the University of Ghana, Legon.

Reine from Deme – Ho, in the Volta Region, and a member of the second cohort, entered the University of Health and Allied Services (UHAS) in Ho during the 2021 – 2022 academic year. An SFCG friend offered to sponsor her entire four-year education at the university. She is currently a third-year physician assistantship student.

Keziah from Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono Region is also a member of the second cohort. An individual sponsored her education for two years at the UHAS. She is a physician assistantship student in her third year and currently being sponsored by Black Star Excellence.

Melchizedek and Methuselah are twins from Nkoranza in the Bono Region. They qualified to attend a tertiary institution after their high school examinations but had to stay at home for one year because their parents could not afford to send them to the university.

A friend reached out to us to provide mentoring while she sponsored them for their four years stay at the university of Cape-Coast. They are Population and Health and Computer Science students respectively.

Ashesi University

Ashesi University is a private tertiary institution located in Berekuso in the Greater Accra Region that offers financial aid to brilliant but needy students. Three of our students, Judith, Mabel and Vanessa are scholars on the Mastercard Foundation programme at the university.

Judith from our second cohort hails from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region of Ghana. With the assistance of SFCG, she applied to Ashesi University and requested financial aid as a needy student. She is currently in her third year as a business administration student.

Mabel is also a member of our second cohort from Drobo-Adiorkor 2 in the Bono Region. She was assisted by SFCG to apply to Ashesi as a needy student. She is studying Management Information Systems and in her third year.

Vanessa is a member of our third cohort. She is from Gognia-Navrongo in the Upper West Region. She is currently a first year student in the Business Administration class pursuing her DREAMS to become a chartered accountant.

The MY DREAM programme is currently running concurrently at the basic and tertiary education levels. As SFCG has begun operations in a few basic schools, the selected children would have to be provided for. Join us as we journey through the fishing communities, not only to enjoy the fresh breeze of the Atlantic Ocean but put smiles on the faces of our young generals.
